How I Started and Grew my Business

How I Started and Grew my Business

July 31, 2021•3 min read

Just yesterday on two separate calls I got asked two great questions about my business journey….

How do I decide which business ideas to pursue?

and

How did I start and grow my Legends group to where it is now?

Opportunities are EVERYWHERE so at times it can be confusing to know which to pursue.

But let me ask you first…do you need to make money right away or do you have some time to build this?

If you need income ASAP then here are a few ideas:

1. Sell Physical products – find some things around your house that you’re not using and sell them on Facebook Marketplace or go to a garage sale this weekend and buy something to flip on Facebook Marketplace or maybe eBay.

2. Perform a service – if you have some type of expertise post on Facebook that you’re wanting to earn some extra cash and you can create a website, clean a house, wash a car, or mow a lawn.

3. Get a 1 on 1 coaching client – if you have people coming to you for advice on a particular subject post on social media that you are looking to take on a few clients. Maybe you always get questions on how you stay in shape and could offer to be a fitness coach for a few friends.

If you have income already and have time to build this then spend some time thinking about what you want your life to look like. Think about how you want to spend your time then select a business that fits around your desired life and skillset rather than fitting your life around your business.

The reason you want to start a business in the first place is probably because you want to create some margin in your life…both time margin and money margin.

So maybe you have some ideas, but you can’t forget the people. Are there people looking for what you have to offer? Who do you want to work with?

At the intersection of people’s needs and your skills you have a business.

My Legends membership group started with listening. I heard a friend

talking about a new way of sourcing profitable products at a store and I knew he was on to something so we did a webinar for my audience. In the middle of the webinar we asked if the audience was interested in diving deeper and thus the Legends group was born. We simply connected the idea with the interested audience.

It has grown from listening as well. We have conversations with the

members both online and offline and ideas for ways to serve them emerges.

This is how my virtual assistant service started – our students wanted VAs to help find profitable products so we started and built an organization that now employs over 60 VAs in the Philippines and a few other countries.

This doesn’t mean every idea is a smashing success, but I’m willing to try things and I’m quick to move on when it’s obvious the idea isn’t going to fly.

So have conversations with the people you’re looking to serve. Find out what their struggles are. What’s stopping them from moving forward? Most importantly….LISTEN!

They’ll tell you what they need and you can connect their need to your skills and knowledge.

If you’re struggling with any of this you’re welcome to email me at [email protected]. I’d love to help.
