Is God Waiting on You?
Tell me what’s wrong with this short story…..
Farmer Joe had a field that was very fertile. Day after day he walked by that field and knew that it had great potential. He had lots of ideas for the different types of crops that he could grow there. While other farmers were sowing in their fields, Farmer Joe cleaned up his barn, washed his tractor, and read books on how to build a profitable farming business.
He was very busy, but not taking action on that field.
Harvest season came and miraculously he had a beautiful field full of the best corn he had ever seen.
What doesn’t add up?
Of course it’s the fact that Farmer Joe never planted any seeds and yet had a harvest. That doesn’t happen.
I think we’re all like Farmer Joe from time to time. We see the potential or we have an idea, yet we stay busy on other things and never take
meaningful action on the dreams God placed in our heart or the business idea we have.
I think sometimes we get overwhelmed at how to get started. We see this huge field and know that it has potential, but we think thoughts like….
“It’s going to cost a lot of money to buy seed to plant this whole field!” (I’m going to have to invest lots of money to make this idea work.) (The truth is you don’t. You can start small and test.)
“It’s going to take a long time to see a harvest!” (It’s going to take a long time to see the results of my work.)
“What if the crops fail?” (What if my idea doesn’t work?)
I talk to people all the time that have a book they know they’re supposed to write yet they haven’t written one word. Or they have the whole book done, but they haven’t taken any steps to get it out to the world.
I also talk to people that have great ideas that get stuck with what to do next. Maybe it’s the technical aspect of creating a website, starting an email list, posting on social media, or self-publishing.
Don’t let something simple like a website stop you from taking action on your dream. Find someone that can help. In most cases, a simple one page site is all you need anyway.
Whatever is stopping you, find someone who can help get you over the hurdle.
Your dream is too valuable to let something small de-rail the whole thing.
Don’t be like Farmer Joe who had a field with lots of potential, but never planted any seed.
If God placed that dream or idea on your heart it’s there for a reason. It’s now your job to take steps to make it a reality. The good news is you’re not on your own. He’s right there with you and will give you the grace to work that field and to see the fruit. You just have to step out and start.
It’s easy to look to God and say “When are YOU going to do something?”, but maybe He’s looking down and saying “Son or Daughter, I’ve entrusted you with this idea and I’m waiting on you to plant some seeds because I’m ready to bless it and use your gifts to change the world.”
Let’s give Him something to bless today.
