What is Life Giving for You?

What is Life Giving for You?

You’ve probably heard the phrase “Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.”

That’s true. A lot of what I do doesn’t even feel like work. I truly enjoy it.

But I didn’t start there.

When I was delivering furniture all over the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex that was work and it felt like it. It doesn’t mean that I dreaded it because even with that business there was a grace on it because that was the

season the Lord has us in.

But I can’t say I loved the furniture business. I was for sure grateful for it because it allowed me to not have to get a regular job and now I’m grateful for it because it was a part of our journey and a stepping stone to where we are today.

This brings to mind a quote I heard from Oprah Winfrey which says “Do what you have to do until you can do what you want to do.”

It’s very possible that the business you’re in now will not be the one you’re in 5 years from now. At the very least it might look different or your role in it will be different.

Maybe you’re not even sure what skill, talent or passion you have that would translate into a business that wouldn’t feel like work?

Let me ask you some questions…what energizes you?

What is it that after you’re done doing this you have more energy than less?

What do people come to you for advice on?

This reminds me of John 4 when Jesus is talking to the Samaritan woman at the well. He and his disciples were on a journey and made a detour through Samaria. So Jesus was likely hot and tired from walking.

His disciples go out to buy food while he spends time ministering to the Samaritan woman.

When his disciples return, they urge him to eat and in verse 32 of John 4 he says “I have food (nourishment) to eat of which you know nothing and have no idea.”

Ministering to this precious woman energized Jesus!

If you’re not sure what this is for you spend some time thinking and praying about it.

If you do know the thing that gives you energy and you’re not sure how that could be a business don’t worry about the business part right now. Simply find the people you feel called to serve and get in front of them and help.

Practically speaking this could look like going into a Facebook group where your ideal audience is and looking for questions you can answer. This will turn into conversations with some of them and those conversations will give you clarity on how you can serve them in a mutually beneficial way.

So don’t get all stressed out about how you’re going to make this thing a business. Simply find your people and do more of the thing that energizes you.

Opportunities will present themselves.
